Betko operates a combination of traditional and state-of-the-art optical grading lines at our packing facilities in Villiersdorp. We process an average of 200 tonnes and a maximum of 500 tonnes of fruit per day. We offer countless combinations of cultivar, size, grade and unique packaging types to ensure our customers have a wide selection of baskets to fill.
Our aim is to provide the best quality fruit for our discerning customers. We also make it our mission to listen to the needs of our receivers and to supply fruit to each one according to the specifications that they require for their market. Our customers place great value on the fact that we offer flexibility to accommodate all the above-mentioned variables without compromising on quality, speed and cost.
Fresh fruit requires special handling during the shipping process and can easily be bruised or damaged. The right packaging solution can also enhance the appeal of apples and pears, ensuring that they arrive safely at their retail destinations. We pack and prepare fruit in trays, bushels, cartons, bags, punnets and flow wrap to name a few. One of the most popular is the corrugated box (or telescopic carton) lined with trays, in which around 65% of our fruit is packed. It offers superior protection and is designed with the necessary vents to allow sufficient ventilation and cooling.
By working closely with our packaging suppliers, we ensure that our products are well protected right through the year.
